Guide Steve Taggart
I have been a licensed NY guide registered with the National Park Service for 14 years. I am also a Professional Firefighter and EMT with the city of Middletown NY. I started fly fishing in 92 with my friends mostly in western NJ. Soon after, we were in search of better water in the Catskills and Adirondacks. The Esopus River became our new home and we made annual trips to the Ausable. In 96 we stepped foot on the West Branch of the Delaware and I never looked back. By 97 I had a camper set up on the West and was fishing 80+ days a year. Then came the Main Stem "The Big River". After a few years, I moved my camper to Hankins and now spend most of my time on the beautiful and uncrowded water between Buckingham and Callicoon.
The Upper Delaware River System (UDR) will push your skills to the limit and then some, and will make you grow as an angler. The challenge and beauty of the Delaware has led me to seek out other like experiences. I have become an avid fisherman for Atlantic Salmon, Steelhead, and Bonefish. Spey casting, spey fishing, and tying spey and salmon flies have taken over my thoughts. Each year I spend a number of days with Captains Jeff Becker and Jason Dapra chasing Albacore,Bonito, and Stripers on the tips of the North and South forks of Long Island.I was co-creator and co-owner of Tightlines Fly Fishing in NJ until I became a fireman in 05. I am currently on Echo Rods and Airflow Fly Lines Pro Staff and work shows for them and put on Spey Demonstrations.
EACH SPRING WHEN I RETURN TO THE MAINSTEM, I AM AWED BY THE BEAUTY OF THE RIVER, THE DIVERSITY AND INTENSITY OF THE HATCHES, AND THE SIZE AND STRENTGH OF THE WILD FISH.
